9kW
R290 inverter heat pump

residential project
A 9kW R290 inverter heat pump and 100L buffer tank supplying two zones of hydronic in-slab heating at a new Gladesville home.
Project overview
For this new-build home in Gladesville, SmartHeat installed a 9kW R290 inverter heat pump connected to a 100L buffer tank. The system provides the heat source for two ground-floor hydronic in-slab heating zones.
The outdoor heat pump, buffer tank, circulation equipment and insulated hydronic pipework were arranged within a narrow external service area.
The wider project also included separate electric underfloor heating in three bathrooms: the ground-floor ensuite, first-floor master ensuite and first-floor bathroom.
Read the accompanying Gladesville in-slab heating case study for the room-by-room heating zones and the pipework installation across two concrete pours.
The architect contacted SmartHeat to request in-slab underfloor heating with a heat-pump heat source, with energy efficiency in mind. The 9kW R290 inverter model was selected for this project.
The heat-source installation needed to fit the wider construction programme, which included two stages of hydronic slab pipework and separate bathroom heating work.
The team first installed the hydronic pipework in stages to suit the two concrete pours. Electric heating mats were then installed in the three bathrooms after waterproofing and conduits were complete.
After the underfloor heating work, the team installed the 9kW R290 inverter heat pump and connected it to the 100L buffer tank and hydronic heating circuit.
The system was tested, commissioned and successfully handed over to the client in May 2026.
